Whether you’re buying a new home, or you want to completely re-decorate your current home, the question that always comes to mind is: “Where do I start?” Is there a type of baseline or template you can use to decorate your home? Do you want to come to your interior design firm with some ideas already?
The best place to start is what’s trending now and for 2016. so we’ve decided to see what some interior design experts and decorating shows have got for us.
Dramatic Colours Are In
On her recent trip to the High Point Market, the furnishing-industry-only tradeshow that showcases and forecasts upcoming trends in home decor, Vancouver, BC designer Maria Killam said that bright colours are definitely in.
Killam said: “Painting a room black might sound like it'd be a cave, but it can be glamorous, modern, and sophisticated.”
...but so are softer colours…
But Loretta Williams over on her blog said there’ll be a softening of colors, including “...restful palettes that embrace shades of blue, green, purple, mushroom and pink.”
...and so are deeper, darker colours...
Citing contrasting views, Williams also said deeper, darker colours are trending:
“...designer Scot Meacham Wood predicts that we will see deeper, darker colors and more playful combinations of hues in interior design.”
Ultimately, according to Williams, the best colour plan for you depends on what you have to work with, and where you’d like to end up. And most importantly, keep your color hue consistent from room to room.
Floral Patterns are Back!
Killiam also said floral patterns are making a come-back (does that mean disco is making a come-back too?:
“Florals, including dark florals (remember florals with a black background from the 80s?), are back. Of course, they're reinterpreted so that we'll love them again!”
Artisan Goods Are Making Their Way To The Living Room
“...consumers should not be afraid to mix vintage and artisanal items with mass produced goods,,,,[and they] should not miss the opportunity to pair a Mongolian lambskin pouf and Moroccan rug next to a Target coffee table...”
The Outdoors are Coming Inside
No, we haven’t become so sedentary (yet) that we’ve actually had to bring the outdoors into our homes. Citing Wright again, what’s happening is actually a really cool trend - bringing the feeling of the outdoors into home decoration.
“From decorating compact apartments with greenery to turning expansive backyards into glamping adventures, consumers are experimenting with how to bring nature into every aspect of their homes.”
